Read and Write Program

Gilligan's Island

"Exploring Writing Composition Through Dance" curriculum draws parallels between dance composition elements and grammar to unleash creative written expression through clear, concise, and sophisticated writing. Students will learn how to use six elements of dance composition, two elements of movement theater and seven of the nine parts of speech to create movement based stories. Learning how to use the parts of speech through dance movement ignites student's imaginations to make literary creation a fun and exciting experience. In addition to the focus on building writing skills through movement composition, the program enhances physical fitness to improve overall health, helps students gain a deep appreciation for theater and dance, and teaches the basic elements of proper dance technique. "Exploring Writing Composition through Dance" engages students in literary storytelling while building the compositional grammar skills necessary to take writing to the next level.

Urban Outreach

Gilligan's Island

Our K-12 education programs are designed to inspire creativity, develop communication and conflict resolution skills, introduce students to professional dance, and to develop physical fitness. Artistic Director, Shawn Rawls first discovered dance through an urban dance program at Cleveland School of the Arts. He credits this early exposure to dance as the first stepping stone to his successful career in dance. He has a heart for sharing dance and the life lessons he learned through dance with urban youth.
